Dakota R. Lamons, 19, was killed while riding a bicycle on the evening of November 9, 2023, on Alabama 91 near County Road 501, about eight miles south of Hanceville in Cullman County. A 2007 Chevrolet Silverado struck him and fled, throwing Lamons from his bicycle; he was pronounced dead at the scene.

Investigators sought the public’s help and described the suspect vehicle as a white 2007–2014 Chevrolet Silverado or a GMC Sierra with the passenger-side black mirror missing. The Alabama Law Enforcement Agency’s Highway Patrol Division and its Traffic Homicide Investigation Unit led the probe.

On November 13, 2023, troopers located and arrested 36-year-old Ryan J. Jolly of Harpersville; he was charged with manslaughter and leaving the scene of an accident with death. The investigation into Lamons’s death is ongoing.
