In the early morning hours of Saturday, March 11, 2023, James Lee Brown Jr., age 53, was fatally struck while standing outside a disabled vehicle on the 100 block of Roebuck Drive in Birmingham. Brown had been waiting for a friend to arrive with assistance when another vehicle hit him and fled the scene. He was pronounced dead at 5:02 a.m., and the Jefferson County Coroner’s Office confirmed his identity.

The vehicle that struck Brown did not stop to render aid; passersby discovered him and the Birmingham Police Department opened a hit-and-run homicide investigation. The investigation remains ongoing.
