Rahkeem Darnell Vanderbilt was 32 when he was found mortally wounded in Birmingham, Alabama, on August 4, 2023. He was discovered with a gunshot wound in the driver’s seat of a vehicle that had come to rest in the front yard of a home in the 1300 block of 25th Street North; the shooting took place a short distance away in the 2400 block of 13th Avenue North. After being shot, Vanderbilt tried to drive from the scene but lost control and the vehicle crashed. Birmingham Fire and Rescue Service personnel pronounced him dead at the scene.

Vanderbilt is remembered as a loving father to five children and a hard worker. His death was one of multiple violent incidents across the city that day, which included another fatality and several injuries. Birmingham police opened a homicide investigation; no arrests or publicly identified suspects have been announced.
