Has anyone else been following Vanessa Reese's case from Fairbanks? I've been deeply moved by her story and keep thinking about her two kids, Gabriel and Lilly, who have lost their mother at such a young age. I've read that Vanessa was deeply involved in her community and passionate about helping others, especially with her work in domestic violence prevention. It seems so senseless that someone so committed to making a positive change in the world could be taken so violently.
I can’t help but wonder about the impact of her work and if any of her efforts could help bring justice in her own case. It’s a painful reminder of how prevalent violence is, even for those who work to prevent it. I truly hope the police can find leads that bring closure to Vanessa's loved ones. If anyone has any more information or thoughts on the case, I'd love to discuss it. It’s crucial we keep talking about these issues.
Hello,

I'm Oscar Jr., Vanessa's younger brother.

Every day without her has been incredibly painful. She is deeply missed by everyone whose life she touched.

Vanessa was an inspiration and a hero to many, including me. She was an amazing mother, always eager to help others, and dedicated to making a difference in the lives around her.

Those closest to her knew that her relationship with the person who ultimately took her from us was sometimes strained, but we never truly understood the depths of its violence. I believe Vanessa didn’t want to worry us or burden those she loved with what she was going through.

She was strong and resilient.

Looking back, there were signs we didn’t fully recognize until it was too late. One that has always stayed with me was how tense she seemed the day before she passed. She should have been excited about starting her new journey in nursing school, but something felt off. She seemed irritable, not as joyful as she usually was—especially for someone who was always so optimistic about the future. I regret not asking her what was on her mind.

She never let on just how dangerous her situation had become.

In just ten days, it will be seven years since Vanessa was taken from her children, her siblings, her parents, and her friends. Every day without her has been hard. I think about her and miss her constantly.

Yet, I find comfort in knowing how many lives she impacted—even after all these years. Seeing that people still remember her kindness, her strength, and the incredible person she was brings me both pride and gratitude.

Love you always, Vanessa.
