On the afternoon of June 15, 2024, Daniel Long, 34, was shot in the chest inside a home on Oneonta Cut-off Road in Albertville, Alabama. Two women and children were also present in the residence when officers from the Albertville Police Department arrived and found the scene. Long was transported to Marshall Medical Center South but was pronounced dead from his injuries.

Officers encountered Colton Dozier at the residence; after a conversation he was taken into custody. Dozier was charged with manslaughter and booked into the Marshall County Jail on a $50,000 bond. The investigation into the circumstances of the shooting remains ongoing.
