Carl Anthony Bryant, 57, was found dead in a wooded area off Lee Road 140 in Salem, Alabama, on the afternoon of March 5, 2022. Deputies responding to a 911 call located his body about 60 yards behind a residence in the 1600 block; the county coroner pronounced him dead at the scene and the cause of death was later determined to be a gunshot wound to the upper body.

Lee County Sheriff’s detectives identified persons of interest and pursued the investigation for several months. On July 5, 2022, 20-year-old Ulysses Antonio Pickard Jr. of Salem was arrested at his residence and charged with Bryant’s murder; he was being held without bond at the Lee County Detention Center. Authorities said the investigation remained active and asked anyone with additional information to come forward.
