James Jeremy Owens, a 40-year-old Caucasian man, was shot on County Road 287 in Stevenson, Alabama, on the evening of August 7, 2021. Responders arrived at about 10:30 p.m.; despite at least one gunshot wound, Owens was able to give a description of his assailant before being airlifted to a hospital in Chattanooga, Tennessee, where he remained in critical condition.
Owens died from his injuries on August 12, 2021, at about 1:22 p.m. Two days after the shooting, on August 9, 2021, a 32-year-old man from Pisgah named Billy Dwight Carter surrendered at the Jackson County Jail and was initially charged with attempted murder. After Owens’s death those charges were upgraded to murder and bond was set at $250,000.
Who in the Stevenson or Pisgah area might have seen or heard anything on the night of August 7 that could clarify what happened?
