On March 15, 2019, Dr. James Jim Eckert, 48, and his wife, Dr. Lizette Liz Eckert, 50, were fatally shot in their Alton, New Hampshire, home. Both were chiropractors and active members of St. Katharine Drexel Parish; James owned a chiropractic practice and was an avid ultramarathon runner, while Lizette practiced at Sanctuary Body Works in Pittsfield and was the mother of their three children.
The New Hampshire Attorney General’s Office reported Lizette died from a single gunshot wound to the head; James was taken to Portsmouth Regional Hospital and died of multiple gunshot wounds. An 11-year-old boy was taken into custody and charged under juvenile law with one count of reckless second-degree murder and one count of attempted murder; after James’s death the charges were updated to two counts of second-degree murder. Authorities withheld further identifying details because of the juvenile’s age.
Funeral services were held at St. Katharine Drexel Parish. A fundraiser started by Lizette’s mother, Diane Kennedy, sought to help the Eckerts’ surviving children with education and healthcare costs. Does anyone from the Alton area have information about the Eckerts or that day that could help clarify what happened?
