Roderic Paul Maynard, 54, vanished from British Columbia after being dropped at Swartz Bay Ferry Terminal on the morning of January 23, 2012. A skilled ferry operator known in the Vancouver and Victoria area, he was described as 5 feet 11 inches, 220 pounds, with short white-grey hair, brown eyes and a large mole under his left cheek. He was believed to be wearing a black trench coat and blue jeans and had left his vehicle at his home on Sandpiper Close in North Saanich.
Friends said he intended to walk onto a ferry and were under the impression he planned to enter a rehabilitation facility for alcohol abuse; his last known location before the terminal was on Salt Spring Island. Family and friends reported him missing on February 14 when they could not contact him. Authorities have stated there is no indication of foul play, but the circumstances remain unexplained.
If anyone saw Roderic at Swartz Bay or on any ferry around January 23, 2012, or has information about his movements that winter, please share what is known.
