On the night of Friday, January 20, 2023, deputies from the Bibb County Sheriff’s Office responded just after 11:30 p.m. to a shooting at the Walnut Hill Apartments on Merriwood Drive in Macon, Georgia. Inside an apartment they found 39-year-old Waymond Danzy with a fatal gunshot wound; the deputy coroner pronounced him dead at the scene.

Investigators arrested 27-year-old Jada Simone Johnson the next day and charged her with murder. Johnson later told police the incident began as a planned robbery: she alleged a man she had met online had sexually assaulted her at gunpoint and refused to pay, so she and Danzy arranged a trap. Johnson said she lured the man to the apartment where Danzy waited with a firearm; a struggle followed, both men were armed, and Danzy was shot and killed.
