On the evening of July 6, 2024, a dispute in the parking lot of the WinCo Foods on Clearwater Avenue in Kennewick, Washington, left 26-year-old Taylor Scoles dead. The argument followed an earlier confrontation on July 2 at a convenience store and continued when Scoles, his brother, and his brother’s girlfriend Leah Hamm followed a group of four teens to the nearby Crown Village apartments. Around 7 p.m., after Scoles stepped out of his car, 16-year-old Angel V. D. Correa opened fire. Scoles was struck multiple times in the chest and later died at a local hospital. Hamm was shot once in the left forearm during the incident.

Kennewick police treated the shooting as a homicide. Witness cooperation was initially limited by fear of retaliation, but investigators identified suspects and arrested Correa. Court documents say Correa had allegedly told a friend weeks earlier he wanted to get a body; after his arrest he reportedly admitted to being the shooter. Prosecutors charged Correa as an adult with first-degree assault for Hamm’s injury and illegal possession of a firearm, and did not file a murder charge, citing a possible claim of self-defense.

If anyone witnessed the events in the WinCo or Crown Village parking lots on July 2 or July 6, or has other information, please come forward.
