Clarence Eric Dawson was a 43-year-old business owner and real estate agent from Fort Myers, Florida, with a wife, Susan, and three children. He was last seen on September 9, 1988, when he left home about 4:30 pm to meet an unidentified person for a 5:45 pm showing at a property in Estero. He never returned home; his car was found the next day at Southwest Florida International Airport and his wife reported him missing to the Lee County Sheriff’s Office.
On November 20, 1988, a hog hunter discovered Dawson’s body on the same Estero property he had visited on September 9. He was in a shallow grave with premixed concrete apparently poured over it; the cause of death was determined to be a .22 caliber gunshot wound to the back of the head. Investigators described the disposal as organized and said the case had characteristics of a mob-style hit.
The case remains unsolved as the 34th anniversary of his death approaches. If anyone has information about Clarence Eric Dawson’s disappearance or death, contact the Lee County Sheriff’s Office or Crime Stoppers.
