On November 11, 2024, at about 7:30 a.m. officers responded to reports of an armed robbery at 64 Skillz, a gaming center on East Dixie Drive in Asheboro. They found 39-year-old employee and U.S. Navy veteran David Matthew Davis dead inside from an apparent gunshot wound. Surveillance showed two suspects in hooded jackets and face masks entering the business; they fled in a gray 2013 Toyota Avalon, reported stolen, with North Carolina plate LAH-9992 and visible damage to both rear bumper corners and the driver’s side rear quarter panel.

The suspect vehicle was recovered abandoned in Durham on November 22, 2024, but the two suspects remain unidentified and at large. Davis, born December 2, 1984, in Siler City, was a 2003 Southwestern Randolph High School graduate and is survived by his wife Megan Luck Davis, their three children, his parents, and siblings. A private funeral service was held, with visitation on November 19, 2024; memorials were suggested to Our Daily Bread in Asheboro.

Anyone with information is asked to contact Detective Williamson at (336) 626-1300, Ext. 2112, or Randolph County Crimestoppers at (336) 672-7463. Did anyone in the Asheboro or Durham areas see the gray Avalon or the two suspects around November 11?
