On the late afternoon of March 23, 2024, two young men were killed in a daylight shooting at the Hermitage Flats Apartments on Old Hickory Boulevard in Hermitage, Tennessee. Seventeen-year-old Camron McGlothen and his 18-year-old roommate, Reginald Smart, were standing near a breezeway at about 4:45 p.m. when three people approached; at least one assailant wore a ski mask and the attackers opened fire, striking both victims multiple times. Witnesses, including children nearby, saw the attack. Smart was pronounced dead at the scene; McGlothen was taken to Vanderbilt University Medical Center and died shortly after arrival.
Metro Nashville Police Homicide Unit investigators described the incident as a targeted double homicide, saying the victims appeared to have been chosen. Authorities have arrested two suspects in connection with the shootings, including 34-year-old Xavier Ellison, who was taken into custody after a traffic stop on I-65 South; Ellison initially gave a false name before being positively identified. The investigation is ongoing.
If anyone has information about who was at the Hermitage Flats that afternoon or witnessed the approach and shooting, please share what is known.
