On December 30, 2023, 20-year-old Tyler Monfort was found inside a parked vehicle at Dignity Health Urgent Care on Sierra Lakes Parkway in Fontana with a gunshot wound and was pronounced dead at the scene. Earlier that day Tyler, his 21-year-old brother Christian Monfort, and a friend had been at an off-road trail in Lytle Creek when Christian, who had a firearm, discharged the weapon while the three were seated in the vehicle, fatally striking Tyler.

After the shooting a friend drove Tyler to the urgent care in Fontana in an attempt to get him medical attention. Christian fled on foot but was located a short time later at a nearby business still in possession of the firearm; he was reported to have threatened an employee at another nearby establishment and was arrested and booked on murder charges. The San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department is investigating and asking anyone with information to contact Detective Michael Roth or submit anonymous tips through We-Tip.

If anyone knew Tyler, Christian, or the circumstances at Lytle Creek that day, please come forward with what you know.
