I’ve been following the tragic events surrounding the shooting near Sam Houston State, and my heart goes out to the families and friends of Cruz Garcia and James Jones. It must be incredibly difficult to process such senseless violence, especially when it affects young people with their whole lives ahead of them. What I find especially disturbing is the role social gatherings play in incidents like this. It seems like a house party should be a safe place for students to relax and enjoy themselves, not somewhere they have to worry about their safety. It’s alarming how quickly things can escalate into violence. Does anyone have any insight into how the community or university is responding to this? Are there discussions about increasing security measures at future gatherings, or ways to better protect students both on and off-campus? I'd be interested in hearing from anyone local to the area or connected to the campus. Let’s keep supporting each other and hoping for peace and healing for everyone affected.
