David Noel Pleasant, 19, of Little Elm, Texas, was shot on the afternoon of February 3, 2023, after going to a cul-de-sac near the 200 block of Paladin Place to buy marijuana and mushrooms. Surveillance footage showed a gray Volkswagen arrive; Pleasant got into the back seat, then ran toward a nearby playground. The driver ran to the rear of the vehicle, fired two shots and Pleasant was found bleeding at the bottom of a stairway. Two spent 9mm shell casings were recovered. He was taken to a Plano hospital, declared to have no brain activity and removed from life support; he died the following morning, February 4, 2023.
Police used an Instagram account linked to the meeting to identify suspects and located the Volkswagen. A pursuit ended when the truck the suspect entered crashed; two people who fled were taken into custody. The suspects were identified as Alec Adamson, then 17, and Mason Schiller, then 18, both Prosper students. They told police they had intended to sell drugs and said Pleasant began hitting them, at which point Adamson shot him. Initial aggravated assault charges were upgraded to murder and bond was set at $1 million each.
