Gregory T. Bell, identified in some reports as Gregory Thomas-Bell, was a 56-year-old African-American man shot to death on November 26, 2016, in Chicago’s Woodlawn neighborhood. Witnesses said an altercation between Thomas-Bell and another man on the 6600 block of South Kenwood Avenue escalated; a gunshot was heard and Thomas-Bell was struck in the head. He was pronounced dead at 3:47 p.m., about nine minutes after the shooting was reported. The Cook County Medical Examiner confirmed his identity.
Police noted Thomas-Bell lived on the 4300 block of South Greenwood Avenue. Initial reporting described him as a documented gang member, but did not establish whether gang activity was related to the killing. Witnesses placed another man at the scene, yet no name, weapon details, or charges were released and no one was in custody at the time of coverage. Public follow-up on this specific homicide was limited, leaving the responsible party unidentified in available reports.
