On the evening of September 18, 2022, 25-year-old Kathleen J. Dampier was found dead from a gunshot wound to the head inside an apartment in the 7400 block of Flint Street in Shawnee, Kansas. Officers responding to a medical emergency reported hearing what sounded like gunfire in the building; another shot was heard as police arrived. A person was seen trying to leave the building and was taken into custody along with another individual.
The primary suspect identified in the case is Doniel Lee Sublett Jr., described in court documents as Dampier’s on-and-off boyfriend for at least three years; the relationship had a history of domestic violence. Dampier and Sublett had been at the apartment to do laundry together before the shooting, and a witness was present at the time. An autopsy later showed Dampier was pregnant, which prompted an additional charge under Kansas law that applies when a fetus is killed during a violent act.
Kathleen Dampier was a mother of three. If anyone has information about the events at the Flint Street apartment on September 18, 2022, please share what you know.
