Joshua J. Wardi, 21, was fatally shot in the Aggieville entertainment district of Manhattan, Kansas, in the early morning hours of February 5, 2022. A soldier stationed at Fort Riley and originally from Manhattan (and a Taft High School alumnus of San Antonio, Texas), Wardi had recently returned from service in Afghanistan and was with friends outside a bar on Moro Street when a verbal dispute escalated around 12:30 a.m.

Riley County officers nearby heard the gunfire, found Wardi with critical injuries on the sidewalk, and attempted first aid; he was pronounced dead at the scene. Officers pursued a fleeing suspect, an officer fired two rounds striking him in the leg, and the suspect was taken into custody and treated at a hospital before being booked into the Riley County Jail. Montgomery was charged with first-degree murder and multiple counts of attempted first-degree murder and held on $1.5 million bond.

Was anyone in Aggieville that night who can add details about what happened around Moro Street?
