On the morning of November 28, 2021, 21-year-old Aniya Collins was killed by a stray bullet while sitting in her car in Hopkinsville, Kentucky. The night had included events at the Princess Theater and ended when a dispute nearby escalated into gunfire as Aniya attempted to leave. Police found her inside the vehicle with a gunshot wound to the chest; another woman, Gteria Acree, suffered a gunshot wound to the leg, and Zamarius Humphries was found with a gunshot wound to the neck.
Investigators identified three men involved in the altercation: Zamarius Humphries and Jaquavian Spencer exchanged fire, and Deovion Day also fired during the chaotic incident. Deovion Day was arrested and charged with Collins’s murder, but a jury later returned not guilty verdicts on murder, manslaughter and assault charges against him. Spencer and Humphries pleaded guilty to being a convicted felon in possession of a firearm and first-degree wanton endangerment and received seven-year prison sentences.
Anyone who knew Aniya, was at the Princess Theater that night, or saw the events leading up to the shooting is asked to come forward with information.
