James C. Chestnut III, 40, was shot and killed during a house party in Janesville, Wisconsin, on the night of January 5, 2020. He was born February 3, 1979, in Chicago and worked as a forklift operator; he was certified in horticulture and carpentry and enjoyed motorcycles and baking. He is survived by a large family, a partner, and many friends.
The shooting followed an argument between Chestnut and Corvasie Weaver, 24, of Joliet, Illinois, who was known to Chestnut through a relative dating Chestnut. Authorities say Weaver fatally shot Chestnut. U.S. Marshals arrested Weaver in Tennessee on March 23, 2020; he was charged with first-degree reckless homicide, extradited to Wisconsin, and pleaded not guilty at his preliminary hearing in Rock County Court.
What details about that night or witnesses’ accounts might help clarify what led to the fatal confrontation?
