DeAngelo L. Alexander, 23, was killed on the South Side of Chicago in the predawn hours of February 12, 2011. Just after 3:19 a.m., gunfire erupted in the 6800 block of South Elizabeth Street; Alexander was struck in the neck and taken to St. Bernard Hospital, where he was pronounced dead at 3:50 a.m. He lived nearby on West 68th Street.
Two other men standing with him were wounded by the same volley: a 23-year-old also hit in the neck was taken in stable condition to University of Chicago Hospitals, and a 22-year-old with a leg wound went to Holy Cross Hospital in good condition. Detectives from the Wentworth Area opened the investigation in the early morning; police said no one was in custody and no description of the shooter was immediately available.
The attack occurred in the narrow window between bar-closing darkness and daybreak on a familiar block where three friends were standing on the sidewalk. Does anyone who was in that area before dawn on February 12 have information about what happened or saw someone leave the scene?
