On the morning of March 2, 2016, 24-year-old Ronele Jones was fatally shot at a residence on South Franklin Street in Aberdeen, Mississippi. Investigators arrived about 5:30 a.m. and found Jones with a single gunshot wound; the Monroe County Coroner ruled that wound the cause of death.
Authorities arrested 34-year-old Jermaine Elliott and charged him with second-degree murder in connection with the shooting. Reports say the incident arose from a domestic dispute at the home where Jones’s ex-girlfriend lived. Family members of the homeowner described ongoing problems with Jones and said a restraining order required him to stay away from the property. On the morning of the shooting, Jones allegedly went to the house, the ex-girlfriend called Elliott for help, and a confrontation on the porch escalated to the fatal shooting. Elliott was held at the Monroe County Jail with bond set at $250,000.
Does anyone have information about Jones, the events that morning, or the case’s legal resolution?
