On the afternoon of May 2, 2021, 26-year-old John Laverette of Ohio was shot and killed at a Linden Street residence in River Rouge, Michigan. Laverette was at the home of his estranged girlfriend, 30-year-old Theresa Imani Bragg, when an argument about the two children they shared escalated. The children were not present during the altercation.
River Rouge police arrived around 4:13 p.m. for a reported shooting and found Laverette unresponsive on the floor with multiple gunshot wounds. He was taken by paramedics to a local hospital and pronounced dead. Bragg was arrested at the scene; the Wayne County Prosecutor’s Office later charged her with one count of Premeditated First-Degree Murder and one count of Felony Firearm, and she was arraigned in 25th District Court and remanded to jail. An alternative account in reports states Bragg claimed she acted in self-defense, citing a history of violence by Laverette.
Are there witnesses or neighbors who recall that afternoon or who can add details about what happened at the Linden Street residence?
