In the early morning hours of October 30, 2020, 17-year-old Carlos Fermir Vanegas-Escobar was found shot to death at a playground on Algonquin Trail in the Pocahontas Square neighborhood of Williamsburg, Virginia. A family member called 911 about 1:41 a.m.; investigators estimate the shooting occurred between 12:20 a.m. and 1:30 a.m. He was a student at Jamestown High School and was described as a caring young man.
Carlos sustained multiple gunshot wounds and was pronounced dead at the scene; the medical examiner later confirmed the gunshot injuries as the cause of death. On November 23, 2020, a 15-year-old boy turned himself in and was charged with murder; the juvenile’s name has not been released. Authorities did not release a motive or describe the relationship between the suspect and the victim.
Did anyone in the Williamsburg area have information about Carlos, his movements that night, or the people he spent time with?
