Early on December 30, 2017, 34-year-old Tyrone Antwon Herndon was shot and killed after a dispute at the Valero gas station on Brookdale Road in Martinsville, Virginia. Officers found Herndon with a gunshot wound following reports of a fight just after midnight; he was taken to SOVAH Hospital in Martinsville and pronounced dead.

Investigators focused on 24-year-old Terrell Martin as the suspect. Witnesses said the confrontation began after Herndon declined to shake Martin’s hand in the gas station parking lot, and police determined Herndon was the intended target. Martin fled the scene and was considered armed and dangerous until his capture in Franklin on January 11, 2018. A Martinsville grand jury later returned a 129-count indictment that included first-degree murder and multiple firearm charges.

If anyone was at the Valero on Brookdale Road that night or saw either man in the hours before the shooting, contact investigators with any information.
