Brieanna Nicole Bell was 20 when she was shot and killed on July 5, 2013, in a parking lot at the Coliseum Crossing shopping center in Hampton, Virginia. She had been in a car with several people when an argument with another occupant, 26-year-old Brandon Berkley, reportedly escalated and Berkley allegedly produced a firearm and shot her once, causing fatal injuries. Berkley fled the scene and a homicide investigation followed.
Hampton police identified Berkley as the suspect and obtained a warrant charging him with homicide and the use of a firearm in the commission of a felony. Investigators also searched Berkley’s apartment in nearby Newport News as the search continued. Bell lived in Newport News, had earned her GED, and was studying Criminal Justice at Strayer University; she was remembered as bright and energetic.
If anyone was in the area that afternoon or has information about what happened in the Coliseum Crossing parking lot, please come forward.
