On a summer day in June 1978, 19-year-old U.S. Marine Gary R. Boutilier disappeared after leaving the Millington Naval Air Station in Millington, Tennessee. He had just bought a new 1978 Suzuki motorcycle, Tennessee plate ZNB768, and told others he planned to ride the rural roads in the area, possibly around Shelby Park. He was a Caucasian male with brown hair, described at between 5 feet 5 inches and 6 feet 3 inches and 150 to 230 pounds.

The Naval Criminal Investigative Service and the Montgomery County Police Department have been involved in the inquiry. His case was entered into the National Missing and Unidentified Persons System in November 2020, and investigators have pursued leads over the years without reaching a resolution.
