Jerry L. Riley Jr., a 32-year-old Black man from Kansas City, Missouri, was killed in the early hours of August 21, 2019, after police were called to a home in the Raytown area on reports of a disturbance and gunfire. Just before 1 a.m., officers went to the 11600 block of East 60th Street, where the chaos inside the residence had already turned fatal. By the time they arrived, Riley was found dead in the home with apparent gunshot wounds, and the scene was treated as a homicide.
