In the early morning hours of May 25, 2018, police officers in the Old North St. Louis neighborhood responded to reports of gunfire near Interstate 70. Upon arriving at the scene around 1:15 a.m., authorities discovered a 28-year-old Black male named Damian Dancy lying on the street, suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. He was immediately transported to a local hospital for emergency treatment, but medical personnel were unable to save him, and he was pronounced dead shortly after arrival.
