In the cool autumn air of a St. Louis evening, the life of Deanton Shields, a 22-year-old Black / African American male, was tragically cut short on Sunday, October 18, 2015. He was found fatally wounded inside a vehicle in the 100 block of North Larch Street in Ferguson, a city within St. Louis County that had been under intense national scrutiny. The discovery was made in the Northwinds Apartments complex, a place that would become the backdrop to a sorrowful and unresolved chapter.
