On the afternoon of May 22, 2011, seven-year-old J'Nylah Douglas, a Black female, was playing with her cousins on a playground at the Clinton-Peabody housing complex south of downtown St. Louis, Missouri. While outside her grandmother's apartment enjoying the weekend, an exchange of gunfire erupted in the vicinity.
