In the spring of 2016, the life of 17-year-old Cortez Brown was cut short in a burst of gunfire on a Baltimore street. On the evening of May 22nd, officers responded to the 3500 block of Hayward Avenue, near the historic Pimlico Race Course, where they found the young man suffering from gunshot wounds. Rushed to Sinai Hospital in critical condition, Cortez Brown ultimately succumbed to his injuries, turning an investigation of a violent assault into one of homicide.
