On a cold February evening in 2000, Bruce Allen Prothero, a 35-year-old Baltimore County police sergeant and devoted father of five, was working a second job as a security guard at J. Brown Jewelers in Pikesville. His life was cut tragically short when four men entered the store in an act of armed robbery. As the robbers fled with stolen jewelry, Sergeant Prothero pursued them into the parking lot, where he was shot and fatally wounded. He was rushed to a local hospital but was pronounced dead.
