Shelby Dorris Jr., a 45-year-old resident of Imperial Beach, California, was tragically shot and killed on January 30, 2022. The incident occurred around 3 a.m. in an alley located in the 800 block of Georgia Street. Deputies from the Imperial Beach Sheriff's Substation responded to reports of gunfire and found Dorris unresponsive with a gunshot wound.
Despite efforts by deputies and firefighters to save him, Dorris was pronounced dead at the scene.
The investigation into Dorris's death led to the arrest of Jesus Manuel Rodriguez Jr., a 34-year-old suspect. Rodriguez was apprehended at the San Ysidro Port of Entry on May 18, 2022, by the San Diego Regional Fugitive Task Force in collaboration with Mexican authorities. He was subsequently booked into the San Diego Central Jail on suspicion of murder. The authorities have not disclosed the motive behind the shooting, and the circumstances surrounding the incident remain under investigation.
Rodriguez's arrest marked a significant development in the case, as he was held on $2 million bail pending his arraignment.
