Alejandro Lupercio, a 24-year-old resident of Indio, California, was tragically found dead on December 13, 2021. The incident occurred in the early hours of the morning, around 3 a.m., on the 45900 block of Duquesne Street. Lupercio was discovered with multiple gunshot wounds, and the initial report of his death came from individuals who lived with him.
The circumstances surrounding his death prompted the Indio Police Department to launch a homicide investigation.
In the course of their investigation, the police identified two suspects: Christian Brooks Andrade, 20, from La Quinta, and Adrian Vega, 22, from Coachella. Both men were arrested on January 13, 2022, in connection with Lupercio's death. They were charged with one felony count each of murder, along with sentence-enhancing allegations of using a firearm during the commission of the crime. Additionally, Vega faced an extra charge for committing the crime while on bail for a previous offense.
The suspects were arraigned at the Larson Justice Center in Indio, where they pleaded not guilty to the charges. Andrade was held at the John Benoit Detention Center on $2 million bail, while Vega was detained at the Robert Presley Detention Center with a $1 million bail. The court scheduled a felony settlement conference for January 27, 2022, to further address the charges against them.
Despite the arrests and charges, the motive behind the shooting remained unclear. The police did not release any information regarding why Lupercio was targeted. The case drew significant attention from the local community, as residents sought answers and justice for the young man's untimely death. The legal proceedings continued as the suspects awaited trial, with the community closely monitoring the developments in the case.
