Kenneth McDaniel, a 27-year-old resident of Santa Rosa, California, tragically lost his life on September 25, 2021, due to gun violence. The incident occurred outside The Whiskey Tip, a neighborhood bar located on Sebastopol Road. McDaniel had been inside the bar enjoying live music before stepping outside, where he was confronted by two men. An altercation ensued, leading to McDaniel being shot multiple times.

The Santa Rosa Police Department launched an immediate investigation into the shooting. They arrested Fogatia Fuiava, a 29-year-old resident of Santa Rosa, with the assistance of the Sonoma County Sheriff's SWAT team. Fuiava was taken into custody without incident after a search and arrest warrant was executed at his residence. The police also identified additional suspects and witnesses, urging the public to come forward with any information that could aid in the investigation. A reward was offered for information leading to further arrests.
The case progressed through the legal system, and in April 2024, a jury found Fogatia Fuiava and another suspect, Ednie Afamasaga, guilty of second-degree murder. They were also convicted of shooting at a vehicle and assault with a semiautomatic handgun but were acquitted of conspiracy charges. The defense argued that the shooting was either in self-defense or revenge for a previous incident in 2018, where McDaniel had allegedly shot one of the defendants outside another bar in Santa Rosa. Despite these claims, the jury's verdict held Fuiava and Afamasaga accountable for McDaniel's death, and they now face potential sentences of at least 40 years to life in prison with the possibility of parole.
