Laron Marcus Follings, a 30-year-old resident of Willowbrook, California, tragically lost his life on January 5, 2021. According to the Los Angeles County Medical Examiner-Coroner's records, Follings was shot near 1526 E. 123rd Street in Willowbrook. The incident occurred around 6:57 p.m. while he was seated in his parked vehicle. Follings sustained multiple gunshot wounds and succumbed to his injuries shortly thereafter.
Follings was known to be a full-time security guard and was in the
process of obtaining his real estate license. He was described by family and friends as a charismatic individual with a charming personality and a bright smile that could light up a room. His untimely death has left a significant void in the lives of those who knew and loved him.
In the aftermath of the shooting, a witness reported hearing gunshots and observed a male near the center divider of East 123rd Street. The suspect then entered a newer model black four-door sedan and fled the scene, heading eastbound on East 123rd Street. Despite the presence of this witness, the identity of the suspect remains unknown.
The Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department (LASD) has been actively investigating the case. In an effort to encourage potential witnesses to come forward, the Board of Supervisors established a reward offer of $20,000 for information leading to the apprehension and conviction of the person or persons responsible for Follings' murder. The reward was seen as a crucial step in bringing attention to the case and aiding the investigation.
As of now, no arrests have been made, and the investigation is ongoing. The LASD continues to urge anyone with information about the crime to contact them or Crime Stoppers.
