Ruth Yesenia Cortes, a 40-year-old Navy lieutenant, tragically lost her life on October 30, 2019, in Moreno Valley, California. Ruth was fatally shot in the driveway of her aunt's house by her ex-boyfriend, Aravon McCalla, a 36-year-old attorney from Santa Monica. Following the shooting, McCalla turned the gun on himself, resulting in a murder-suicide. This incident shocked the community and left Ruth's family and friends devastated.
