Anthony Young, a 20-year-old resident of Perris, California, tragically lost his life on the evening of April 8, 2018. The incident occurred in the 2000 block of North Perris Boulevard, near Citrus Avenue, where Young was fatally shot during an apparent robbery in a shopping center parking lot. According to reports, two suspects confronted Young, held him up, and shot him once in the upper body.
Despite being rushed to Riverside University Medical Center in Moreno Valley, Young succumbed to his injuries shortly after arrival.
The Riverside County Sheriff's Department immediately launched an investigation into the homicide. Surveillance footage from the scene captured the two suspects before, during, and after the attack. The suspects were described as black males in their 20s, with one wearing a blue T-shirt, acid wash jeans, and blue sneakers, while the other wore a blue zip-up hooded sweatshirt with white stripes, dark-colored jeans, a black do-rag, and beige or off-white sneakers. They fled the scene in a silver 1998-2000 four-door Lexus GS300 with tinted windows and a sunroof.
Following the release of the surveillance footage, the Sheriff's Department received numerous tips from the public. These tips led to the identification and arrest of one of the suspects, Tyler Nathaniel Washington, a 21-year-old man from Hemet, California. Washington was apprehended on May 21, 2018, after being found hiding at a residence in Hemet. He was charged with murder with malice and second-degree robbery and was held without bail. Washington later pleaded guilty to first-degree murder and robbery and was sentenced to 52 years to life in prison.
The investigation into the second suspect continued, with authorities seeking the public's assistance in identifying and locating the individual captured in the surveillance footage. The case highlighted the importance of community involvement in solving crimes and bringing perpetrators to justice. The tragic death of Anthony Young serves as a somber reminder of the impact of violent crime on individuals and communities.
