Austin Louis Jimenez, a 28-year-old resident of Whittier, California, tragically lost his life on September 8, 2017. The incident occurred in the early hours of the morning when Whittier police responded to a call about a shooting in the 12800 block of Penn Street. Upon arrival, officers discovered a crime scene but no immediate victims. Approximately an hour later, West Covina police were alerted to another incident nearly 15 miles away, where they found Jimenez and two other men inside a
Nissan sedan. All three had been shot, and Jimenez was pronounced dead at the scene at 4:46 a.m. The other two men were transported to a hospital for treatment.
The investigation revealed that Jimenez had been sitting in the car with two other individuals when Peter Vidal Hernandez, a 34-year-old resident of Whittier, approached on foot. An argument ensued between Hernandez and Jimenez through the car window. As the car began to drive away, Hernandez pulled out a gun and fired multiple shots at the vehicle, resulting in the fatal injuries to Jimenez and wounding the other two passengers. The Whittier police were able to link the two crime scenes and identified Hernandez as the primary suspect.
Following the identification of Hernandez, Whittier police arrested him on September 28, 2017, on suspicion of murder. Hernandez was subsequently charged and scheduled for arraignment on October 2, 2017. The case against Hernandez included charges of murder and other related offenses stemming from the shooting incident. The legal proceedings aimed to bring justice for the death of Austin Louis Jimenez and address the violent actions that led to his untimely demise.
