On January 28, 2024, at approximately 10 p.m., 22-year-old Fernando Dominguez was fatally shot in an unincorporated area near Whittier, California. The incident occurred in the 5700 block of Esperanza Avenue, close to Amigo Park and west of the San Gabriel River (605) Freeway. According to the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department, deputies responded to reports of gunshots and found Dominguez, who was pronounced dead at the scene.
Dominguez, a resident of Montebello, was visiting friends in the neighborhood at the time. He had taken trash to a dumpster at nearby Amigo Park, and while walking back to the house, he was shot. Authorities have indicated that the shooting appears to have been gang-related.
