Heriberto, who had moved to Lamont in 2004 and was a well-known figure in the community, was shot multiple times during the altercation. His son, Juan, aged 28, also succumbed to gunshot wounds. The investigation into the murders of Heriberto and Juan Aceves revealed that the suspects were part of a larger criminal operation. Darnell Hammond, one of the gunmen, was later arrested and charged with the murders.
