On October 10, 2024, 12-year-old Tristen Rudy Alexander Aguilar Rodriguez was fatally shot around noon at the Lamont Mobile Estates on Gregory Avenue in Lamont, California. Responding deputies from the Kern County Sheriff's Office found Tristen deceased at the scene.
Later that evening, authorities arrested a male juvenile suspect approximately a mile away on Di Giorgio Road.
The suspect, identified as Javier Leo Armendariz, was initially booked into Juvenile Hall on suspicion of second-degree murder.
Following the incident, the Lamont Elementary School District, where Tristen was a student at Mountain View Middle School, offered counseling and support services to students and staff to help them cope with the tragedy.
Tristen's family, particularly his mother, Brianda Rodriguez, expressed profound grief over the loss of her son, describing him as outgoing, friendly, and aspiring to play in the NFL. She emphasized that he was not involved in gangs or gun violence and believed his killing was intentional.
The Kern County District Attorney's Office later filed a petition alleging first-degree murder against Armendariz, with a court hearing scheduled for December.
The community continues to mourn Tristen's untimely death, with ongoing discussions about the impact of gun violence on youth and the importance of providing support to affected families.
