Jesus Leon, a 19-year-old resident of Santa Ana, California, tragically lost his life on June 27, 2016. The incident occurred at approximately 11:00 p.m. in a home located in the 1000 block of West 2nd Street in Santa Ana. On that fateful night, Leon was shot in the head by a 17-year-old named Angel Alexis Hernandez. The two were inside the home when Hernandez used a firearm to commit the act, resulting in Leon's immediate death.
Following the shooting, Hernandez fled the scene.
However, the Santa Ana Police Department (SAPD) quickly initiated an investigation. By the next morning, on June 28, 2016, SAPD officers had located and arrested Hernandez at a relative's home in Santa Ana. The arrest was made at approximately 5:30 a.m., less than 24 hours after the incident.
Hernandez was charged as an adult with one felony count of murder, along with a sentencing enhancement allegation for the intentional discharge of a firearm. If convicted, he faced a maximum sentence of 50 years to life in state prison.
