Martin Heredia, a 20-year-old resident of King City, California, tragically lost his life on June 8, 2016. The events leading to his death unfolded on the night of June 7, 2016, when Heredia was at his family’s home with three friends. After a brief outing to purchase food, they returned to the residence. As Heredia stepped outside to retrieve a bag of chips from his friend's vehicle, a black pickup truck carrying John Samuel Trivino and other Norteno gang members drove by.
Trivino exited the truck and approached the house, opening fire on Heredia and the residence. Heredia was struck by the gunfire and succumbed to his injuries shortly after.
The investigation into Heredia's murder was extensive and spanned several years. It wasn't until 2021 that significant breakthroughs were made, leading to the arrest of multiple suspects. John Samuel Trivino, also known as "Smack," was identified as the primary shooter. He was arrested and later found guilty of murder and conspiracy to commit murder. Trivino's trial, presided over by Judge Mark E. Hood, concluded with a conviction, and he now faces a maximum sentence of 50 years to life in the California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation.
In addition to Trivino, Kendrix Perez, another suspect, was arrested in connection with Heredia's murder. Perez, along with Trivino, was part of a multi-agency investigation that included cooperation from various law enforcement agencies such as the King City Police Department, California Highway Patrol, and the Monterey County Sheriff's Office. This coordinated effort was crucial in piecing together the events of that fateful night and bringing the perpetrators to justice.
The arrests and subsequent convictions provided some measure of closure for Heredia's family, who had endured years of uncertainty and grief. Roxanna Heredia, Martin's sister, expressed the profound impact his death had on their lives and the hope that the convictions would bring some semblance of peace to their family. The case highlighted the persistent efforts of law enforcement to solve cold cases and deliver justice for victims and their families.
