Miguel Corrales-Rosales, a 37-year-old resident of Berkeley, California, tragically lost his life on July 24, 2015, in San Leandro. The incident occurred in the early hours of the morning on Interstate Highway 880. According to reports, Corrales-Rosales was driving his car with two passengers when an argument broke out between him and one of the passengers, Alfredo Rivera. The argument escalated, leading to a physical altercation over a gun that Corrales-Rosales had pulled out.
During the struggle, Rivera managed to gain control of the weapon and shot Corrales-Rosales four times, twice in the back. The shooting happened near the Marina Boulevard overpass, and Corrales-Rosales was pronounced dead at the scene by responding officers who were already in the area investigating a separate multi-vehicle crash.
Following the incident, Alfredo Rivera, a 45-year-old resident of Oakland, fled the scene on foot, discarding the gun in nearby bushes. The other passenger in the car remained at the scene and provided crucial information to the investigators. Based on this testimony and other evidence, the authorities quickly identified Rivera as the suspect. A warrant was issued for his arrest, and Rivera turned himself in to the California Highway Patrol office in Oakland a few days later. He was subsequently charged with murder by the Alameda County District Attorney's Office and held without bail at Santa Rita Jail.
The case against Rivera proceeded with him being arraigned in court shortly after his arrest. The investigation revealed that the altercation between Corrales-Rosales and Rivera stemmed from a disagreement while they were returning from a club.
