Kody Ryan Cook, an 18-year-old from Gardena, California, was tragically shot and killed on June 26, 2015. One of these individuals pulled out a small caliber, semiautomatic handgun and fired multiple rounds into Cook's car, fatally wounding him. The assailants then fled the scene in a nearby vehicle. Cook's friend was unharmed.
The investigation led to the arrest of two 17-year-old boys from Gardena on July 6, 2015. One was charged with murder, while the other was charged with being an accessory after the fact. Due to their ages, the names of the suspects were not released. Both suspects pleaded not guilty, and their next court date was set for August 11, 2015, in Los Angeles County Juvenile Court in Inglewood. The case remained under investigation, with authorities urging anyone with information to come forward.
