Lavel Mucherson, a 31-year-old African American male, was tragically killed on June 2, 2019, in Miami Gardens, Florida. He and his 7-year-old son, Hezekiah, were fatally shot while driving in a black pickup truck. The incident occurred around 7 p.m. as they were heading north on Northwest 37th Avenue and crossing 207th Street. A dark-colored vehicle pulled up alongside them and opened fire, striking both victims.
Authorities found a semi-automatic type rifle and two handguns in Mucherson's truck, leading detectives to believe he was targeted.
Lavel Mucherson had previously been the victim of two shootings in Miami Gardens, one on July 21, 2009, and another on December 8, 2011. He was also arrested on a second-degree murder charge in 2014, but the case was later dismissed. The FBI and Miami Gardens Police Department are still seeking information about the murders, and they have not ruled out the possibility that the shooting was connected to another fatal incident that occurred early the next morning in Miramar. In that case, a man in his 20s was found shot to death in front of a black BMW he had been renting.
Despite ongoing investigations, no arrests have been made in connection with the murders of Lavel Mucherson and his son. The FBI continues to assess every tip and pursue credible leads, working with local authorities to identify any other angles that should be considered. The community and law enforcement agencies remain hopeful that new information will eventually lead to justice for the Mucherson family.
